Department Mission Statement

Damonte Ranch High School believes every student deserves the opportunity to discover the power of language, whether students are learning a new language, strengthening their heritage language, or developing English skills.

Our mission is to:

Build Communication Skills: Help students grow as confident speakers, listeners, readers, and writers in more than one language.
Celebrate Identity and Diversity: Value and honor the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of all students, from traditional language learners to heritage speakers and English learners.
Open Doors to the Future: Prepare students for college, careers, and community life by giving them the tools to succeed in an interconnected world.
Encourage Lifelong Learning: Inspire students to continue exploring languages and cultures long after graduation.
Foster Understanding and Respect: Teach students to connect with others, appreciate different perspectives, and contribute positively to our diverse community.

By working together, our World Languages team helps students graduate not only with stronger academic skills but also with a deeper appreciation of themselves, others, and the world around them.

Course Information & Pathways

All World Language courses are performance-based in three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational. Learners accomplish real-world communicative tasks in culturally appropriate ways as they gain familiarity with products, practices, perspectives, and interactions of and within the target culture(s).
